The National Marine Aquarium is the charity dedicated to raising awareness of
the oceans, the challenges they face and the ways in which we can all help

The Aquarium experience comprises a total of 50 live exhibits including 3 massive tanks. Over 4000 animals from 400 species are displayed in realistic habitats from local shorelines to coral reefs. In addition our technological zone, Explorocean focuses on ocean exploration and sustainability through innovative, interactive exhibits.

The Aquarium is made up of 6 main zones: Explorocean, The Shallows, Atlantic Reef, Meditteranean Sea, Weird Creatures and Coral Seas. Each zone is packed full of amazing Marine Creatures and fantastic facts for you to find.

The Georgia Aquarium opened in 2005 as one of the largest aquariums in the world. Located in downtown Atlanta, it is undoubtedly a breathtaking experience for all its visitors. A generous endowment from Bernard Marcus, the co-founder of Home Depot, makes this dynamic aquarium possible. It showcases exotic sea creatures such as giant groupers, beluga whales, and whale sharks (which have never been seen outside of Asia). The Whale Shark - the world's largest fish - is listed on the World Conservation Union's Red List of Threatened Animals as "indeterminate" status. Not enough is even known about the Whale Shark to call it endangered!!

Whale sharks are rare, exclusive creatures that scientists still know very little about. One interesting adaptation of the whale shark that scientists have discovered is that it has sensors that run the length of its body which are used for detecting pressure changes in the surrounding water. Whale sharks swim with their huge mouths wide open to chow down, making it hard for their proportionately small eyes to see where they're going. Being able to detect large objects with their pressure sensors gives the shark a "sixth sense" that acts like back-up vision.
